Beyond the Clock: Rethinking Premature Ejaculation
I recently sat down with Eve on the Please Me! Podcast for an honest conversation about something many men carry quietly: premature ejaculation.
Most people treat it as a stopwatch problem. How long did you last? In my experience, that’s the least interesting part of the story. What matters more is whether you can stay present in your body, stay connected to pleasure, and meet intensity without tensing up or checking out.
So much of what men experience as “coming too soon” is really the nervous system responding to anxiety and pressure. When performance takes over, the body speeds up, the breath gets shallow, and presence slips away. The way back isn’t gritting your teeth and trying harder. It’s learning to feel. Somatic awareness, breathwork, and relaxation teach you to notice what happens as arousal builds, so you can respond rather than react.
Eve and I also talked about the difference between edging and expanding your window of tolerance. Edging can be a useful tool, but the real invitation is to grow your capacity to hold more pleasure, more fully, through your whole body, not just to last longer. That’s where tantric practice comes in, and where self-pleasure becomes self-love rather than a race to the finish.
We finished with what I call gourmet sex: slower, more sensory, more intentional. Less performing, more savouring.
At its heart, this episode is an invitation to trade pressure for presence, and to become a more mindful lover, for yourself and for your partner.
Some key things we talk about:
Understanding premature ejaculation beyond time
The connection between anxiety, the nervous system, and sexual response
Somatic awareness and learning to feel your body
Breathwork and relaxation during sexual intensity
Edging vs. expanding your window of tolerance
Sexual confidence and overcoming performance pressure
Self-pleasure, self-love, and sexual exploration
Tantric sex and full-body pleasure
Why presence can matter more than performance
Creating more connected, intentional, and sensual sex
Premature ejaculation isn’t a verdict on you as a lover. It’s information. When you slow down enough to listen, your body starts telling you exactly what it needs.
If that’s the conversation you’ve been waiting to have, Eve and I would love for you to listen.
